Icing skiing at Trillium Lake

Since there's been no new snow for over a week the xc skiing at Trillium Lake (Mt. Hood on Hwy 26 near Gov't Camp) was mediocre at best. We were optimistic at the start but the trail conditions only got worse as we traveled counter-clockwise around the lake. I think we walked 3 of the 5 miles! It was a bit terrifying in places because the trail was a sheet of ice. But, I have to say, it was a picture postcard day. Can't complain about that.

We stopped at the southern-most shore of the lake to eat lunch, take pictures and play in the snow. It was absolutely beautiful.

After our loop around the lake we relaxed at the sno-park lot and did some innertubing and then we drove up to Timberline Lodge. What a great view from the lodge! Wow! We wanted to stay and have their "legendary" hot chocolate but the tables were full and the wait just convinced to save a few bucks, skip the cocoa and head home. Fun day but next time we'll wait for fresh snow :-)
